Anne Frank House Sees Surge In US Interest Amid Rising Antisemitism...

The Anne Frank House in Amsterdam is experiencing a notable spike in US online searches and virtual tour bookings this week. The trend coincides with recent reports of rising antisemitic incidents across America, prompting renewed public engagement with Holocaust education.

Google Trends data shows US searches for the museum doubled over the past seven days. Museum officials confirm a 40% increase in American visitors to their digital platforms since March 1. This comes as the Anti-Defamation League reported a 337% surge in US antisemitic incidents following the October 2023 Israel-Hamas conflict.

"We're seeing extraordinary interest from American schools and families," said Ronald Leopold, executive director of the Anne Frank House. The museum's online educational programs have added 12,000 US participants this month alone, with many teachers incorporating Anne Frank's diary into lessons about tolerance.

The Amsterdam museum preserves the secret annex where Frank and her family hid from Nazis for two years before their capture in 1944. Frank's posthumously published diary has sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of history's most widely read firsthand accounts of Holocaust persecution.

US interest appears particularly strong among Gen Z audiences, with TikTok videos tagged #AnneFrank gaining 28 million views in February. The museum has partnered with Instagram to launch augmented reality exhibits featuring Frank's writings, which launched last week to coincide with International Women's Day.

Several state legislatures are now considering bills mandating Holocaust education in public schools. New Jersey became the latest state to pass such legislation on March 8, following similar moves in Florida and Illinois. The Anne Frank House has provided curriculum materials to 1,200 US school districts since January.

Holocaust scholars note the timing aligns with the 81st anniversary of Frank's final diary entry on August 1, 1944. The museum plans to livestream a reading of the complete diary starting April 11, 2026 - the date of Frank's arrest.

Security has been heightened at US Holocaust museums and Jewish community centers following recent threats. The Anne Frank House reports working with Dutch authorities to protect its physical location while expanding digital access for international audiences.

Virtual tours of the secret annex are currently booked three weeks in advance, with 60% of reservations coming from North America. The museum expects this trend to continue through Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day) on April 16.
