F1 Announces 2026 Schedule With New US Race In Chicago...

Formula 1 has unveiled its 2026 calendar, featuring a groundbreaking new street race in Chicago and expanded US presence. The announcement, made early Tuesday, confirms three US Grands Prix—Miami, Austin, and the debut Chicago event—marking F1's strongest push yet into the American market.

The 24-race schedule begins March 8 in Bahrain and concludes December 6 in Abu Dhabi. Chicago's lakefront circuit, approved after months of negotiations, will host the inaugural Windy City Grand Prix on July 19, 2026. The race will pass landmarks like Grant Park and Soldier Field.

F1's popularity has surged in the US, with ESPN reporting record viewership in 2025. The Chicago addition reflects growing demand, though some residents have raised concerns about traffic and costs. Mayor Brandon Johnson called it "an economic win" that could generate $300 million annually.

Other changes include Spain moving from Barcelona to Madrid and Belgium's Spa-Francorchamps returning after a one-year absence. The season features six sprint weekends, unchanged from 2025. Teams will get a four-week summer break in August.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali stated the schedule balances "tradition and innovation." The 2026 season also introduces new engine regulations aimed at sustainability. Ticket sales for US races open March 15, with Chicago prices starting at $350.

The schedule announcement trended nationwide as fans debated the packed calendar. Some drivers, including Mercedes' Andrea Kimi Antonelli, voiced concerns about the physical demands. The FIA confirmed it's reviewing safety protocols for the new Chicago circuit.

With three US races, 2026 could be F1's most consequential American season yet. The Chicago event positions the sport to challenge NASCAR and IndyCar in key markets. All races will air on ESPN and F1 TV in the US.
