F1 Announces Major 2026 Schedule Changes, Including New US Race...

Formula 1 has unveiled its 2026 race calendar, featuring significant changes that include a new US Grand Prix in Chicago and adjustments to existing North American races. The announcement, made early Tuesday, comes as F1 continues its aggressive expansion in the American market following the sport's growing US popularity.

The 2026 schedule will feature a record 24 races, with Chicago joining Austin, Miami, and Las Vegas as the fourth US stop on the calendar. The new street circuit event is scheduled for early July, filling a previously vacant summer slot in the F1 calendar. Chicago officials confirmed the race will run along Lake Shore Drive with views of the city skyline.

Existing US races will see date shifts, with Miami moving to April and Las Vegas pushed later into November. The changes aim to avoid extreme summer heat in some locations while maintaining F1's coveted primetime US television slots. ESPN viewership data shows American F1 audiences have grown 58% since 2021.

Reaction has been mixed among US fans. While many celebrate another domestic race, some worry about ticket prices and potential traffic disruptions. Chicago resident and longtime F1 fan Michael Torres told reporters: "It's exciting but I hope they keep it accessible for local fans."

The 2026 calendar also confirms the return of the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal and introduces new sustainability measures. All North American races will use advanced biofuels as F1 works toward its net-zero carbon goal by 2030.

With three years until the new schedule takes effect, teams are already preparing for the logistical challenges. The expanded calendar means some European races may lose their traditional dates to accommodate the growing North American segment.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali stated: "The US has become our second home market. These changes reflect both fan demand and our long-term vision for the sport." The full 2026 schedule is now available on Formula1.com, with ticket pre-registration opening next week.
