Fatal Crash On Kings Highway Shuts Down Traffic For Hours...

A multi-vehicle crash on Kings Highway left one dead and three injured early Monday morning, causing major traffic delays during rush hour. The collision occurred near the intersection of Kings Highway and Avenue P in Brooklyn, New York, around 6:30 a.m. ET, according to the NYPD.

Emergency responders arrived within minutes, but one victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition, while a fourth person sustained minor injuries. The identities of those involved have not yet been released pending family notifications.

The crash involved a sedan, a delivery truck, and an SUV, with witnesses reporting the sedan ran a red light before the collision. NYPD’s Highway District is investigating whether speed or impaired driving played a role. Dashcam footage from a nearby business is being reviewed.

Kings Highway was closed in both directions for over four hours, snarling traffic across southern Brooklyn. Commuters reported delays on the B82 and B7 bus routes, with some riders opting for alternate transportation. The roadway fully reopened by 11 a.m. ET.

The crash is trending nationally due to its timing during peak travel hours and its location on a major Brooklyn thoroughfare. Local officials have called for increased traffic enforcement along Kings Highway, where speeding has been a recurring issue. A vigil for the victim is planned for Tuesday evening.

This marks the third fatal crash on Kings Highway in the past year, renewing concerns about road safety in the area. The NYPD urges witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers with any additional information.
