Jackie O Announces Sudden Exit From Long-Running Radio Show...

Radio host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson shocked listeners Wednesday by announcing her immediate departure from The Kyle and Jackie O Show, ending her 15-year partnership with co-host Kyle Sandilands. The abrupt exit comes just weeks after the duo signed a new multi-year contract with ARN’s KIIS 106.5 in Sydney, though Henderson cited personal reasons for leaving the top-rated Australian program that also airs in US markets.

Fans flooded social media with reactions as the news trended globally, with many American listeners recalling Henderson’s viral 2023 interview with Dolly Parton that boosted the show’s US following. Industry analysts note the timing coincides with ARN’s planned expansion of the franchise into American digital platforms this spring.

Sandilands confirmed during Wednesday’s broadcast that Henderson had left the building before the show aired, calling it “a very sad day.” Network executives have not yet named a replacement for the 49-year-old media personality, who revolutionized Australian morning radio with her candid interviews and self-deprecating humor.

The surprise announcement comes three months after Henderson won her ninth Australian Commercial Radio Award for Best Entertainment Host. KIIS 106.5’s parent company Australian Radio Network saw its stock drop 2.3% in early trading following the news.

US listeners primarily know Henderson through the show’s podcast, which ranks among Apple Podcasts’ top 50 entertainment shows stateside. Her departure leaves questions about the future of stateside distribution deals, including the show’s new iHeartRadio partnership announced last month.

Henderson has not commented beyond her on-air statement about prioritizing family. The mother of one previously took a six-month hiatus in 2017 to focus on her daughter Kitty’s health challenges. Industry insiders suggest she may launch an independent podcast following her non-compete period.
