Red Flag Warning Issued For Multiple States As Wildfire Risk Soars...

A red flag warning is in effect across several western and southern U.S. states today as dry, windy conditions create extreme wildfire danger. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued the alert for parts of California, Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico, where gusts up to 50 mph and humidity below 10% are expected through Saturday.

The warning comes just weeks after wildfires devastated parts of Oklahoma and Colorado, destroying homes and forcing evacuations. Fire officials are urging residents to avoid outdoor burning and report any smoke immediately. "These conditions are ripe for rapid fire spread," said NWS meteorologist Lisa Wells in a Thursday briefing.

Red flag warnings are trending today as millions check local alerts ahead of weekend outdoor activities. Social media reports show heightened concern in Texas, where the warning overlaps with popular camping areas like Big Bend National Park. The Texas A&M Forest Service has placed crews on standby.

California officials are particularly alarmed after the state recorded its driest January on record. "We're seeing February behave like peak fire season," said Cal Fire spokesperson Daniel Berlant. PG&E announced it may preemptively cut power to 12,000 customers in Northern California if winds intensify.

Meteorologists attribute the dangerous conditions to a strong high-pressure system diverting moisture away from the region. The same weather pattern is bringing unseasonably warm temperatures to the Midwest, where some areas will reach 70°F this weekend.

Emergency managers advise residents in warning zones to prepare evacuation kits and monitor local authorities. The red flag alert is expected to remain active until at least 6 p.m. Sunday in most areas, with critical fire weather likely to return next week.
