Towson Edges Hofstra In Thrilling CAA Tournament Semifinal...

Towson University defeated Hofstra 72-69 in a dramatic CAA Tournament semifinal on Wednesday night, advancing to the championship game for the first time since 2013. The game, played at Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington D.C., came down to the final possession as Hofstra's potential game-tying three-pointer rimmed out at the buzzer.

Senior guard Nicolas Timberlake led Towson with 22 points, including a crucial three-pointer with 1:12 remaining. Hofstra's Aaron Estrada, the CAA Player of the Year, scored a game-high 24 points but missed the final shot that would have forced overtime.

The victory sends Towson (24-8) to Tuesday's championship game against UNC Wilmington, with an NCAA Tournament berth on the line. Hofstra (23-10) now must wait to see if they receive an NIT bid after falling short of their conference tournament goals.

This matchup is trending nationally because it featured two of the CAA's top teams in a high-stakes postseason game with NCAA implications. Both programs have developed strong fan bases along the East Coast, particularly in their home regions of Maryland and New York.

The game drew significant attention on social media for its back-and-forth action and dramatic finish. Several highlight plays, including Timberlake's clutch three and a spectacular block by Towson's Charles Thompson in the final minutes, went viral on basketball platforms.

Towson coach Pat Skerry praised his team's resilience after the game: "These guys have battled all season. To win a game like this against an outstanding Hofstra team shows what we're capable of." Hofstra coach Speedy Claxton lamented missed opportunities but credited his team's effort.

The Tigers will look to capture their first NCAA Tournament bid since 1991 when they face UNCW on Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. Hofstra's season likely continues in the NIT, with selections announced Sunday night.
