Wise Users In US Seek Clarity On Transfers To Nubank...
US customers of international money transfer service Wise are searching for answers after conflicting reports emerged about whether funds can be sent directly to Brazilâs digital bank Nubank. The topic spiked on Google Trends this week as expats and freelancers attempt to navigate cross-border payments between the two fintech platforms.
Wise (formerly TransferWise) confirmed to US media on Wednesday that direct transfers to Nubank accounts are currently unavailable, though funds can be routed through intermediary Brazilian banks. This clarification comes after social media posts suggested the services had integrated, causing confusion among the estimated 500,000 US-based Nubank customers.
The issue gained traction as more Americans working remotely for Brazilian companies or sending money to family abroad seek efficient transfer options. Nubank, which expanded its US operations in 2023, has become particularly popular among Brazilian expatriates and digital nomads for its no-fee structure.
Financial experts note the growing demand reflects broader trends in cross-border fintech usage. âUS consumers increasingly expect seamless international banking,â said Georgetown University fintech researcher Dr. Elena MĂĄrquez. âWhen major platforms donât interconnect, it creates real pain points for global workers.â
Wise representatives stated they are âin ongoing conversationsâ with Nubank about potential integration. Meanwhile, customers are advised to use Wiseâs Brazilian real (BRL) account details for indirect transfers or explore alternative services like Remitly for direct Nubank deposits.
The search surge coincides with Nubankâs recent announcement of new US-based services, including dollar accounts for Brazilian residents. Industry analysts suggest full Wise-Nubank compatibility could emerge within 12-18 months as both companies expand their global networks.
